More prayers from Leviticus
By Bethany Steventon, 06 Jul 2023
Beth prayed this at Church on 2nd July:
O LORD, our God, who brought us up out of our sin and consecrated us by the blood of your son. You call us to be holy, because you are holy. Thank you for the picture lessons that you gave to your people through the Law. In Leviticus we have been shown afresh the all-pervasive filth of sin, that taints everything with curse-uncleanness. We are sorry that we belittle our sin and that we still love to wallow in it, like dogs returning to our vomit.
Thank you for Jesus, the better priest and the better sacrifice. Thank you that he has made us clean, and that your Holy Spirit strengthens us to resist sin while we look forward to a world made new and uncursed.
Please would you unite us by your Spirit as we press on, to live as a people who are distinctive from the world around us. Not through laws and restrictions, but through gospel hope, through gospel love and through gospel community.
As individuals and as a church family, would our lives be picture lessons to the world around us. Please use us to show the extraordinary power of salvation through Jesus in ordinary people.
Amen
