Prayers from Leviticus

At Prayer lunch Tom and Hazel Day prayed these prayers in response to Sunday 4th June's sermon on Leviticus 8 and reflecting on Colossians 3. 

Heavenly Father, the one whom we can approach in prayer only through our priest in heaven - the Lord Jesus. 

We praise you for the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have been reconciled to you and brought into your presence. Thank you that he accomplished his priestly work on earth when he laid down his life as a sacrifice to pay for our sin. And thank you that he now is in heaven interceding and continuing his priestly work for us of representing us before you. We praise you for the incredible reality that through this work we are now with him in your presence now spiritually. 

Thank you for cleansing us and making us holy- washing us in baptism and clothing us with Christ and his righteousness. Through this work you have made us to be a holy people, priests dedicated to your service and worship. We ask you would give us grace to grow in holiness as you continue your sanctifying transforming work in us now by your Holy Spirit. 

Thank you that through his work in our hearts our righteous deeds please you. That to us they are fine linen clothing us as your church- bright and pure, ready and waiting for the wedding banquet of the lamb when Christ returns to call his people home.

We praise you in Jesus' name,

Dear Lord, 

As we wait for the wedding day, help us to put on our priestly robes for service. 

Please would you help us by your Spirit to take off all that is sin and belongs to our old nature, and to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We pray that you would help us to bear with one another, forgive and in all these things act in love. 

When we find this difficult please would you remind us that we are already washed by the blood of the lamb, made priests with Christ and given your Spirit. Please would you strengthen us to set our minds on Christ and the coming wedding day that we are preparing for.
